Microsoft announced that 16 more Xbox 360 games have been made backwards compatible on Xbox One Thursday. The announcement marks the first update to the console’s backwards compatibility feature since launching in November

.
The compatibility update comes one month after Microsoft released the firmware activating Xbox 360 compatibility on the Xbox One. The November update added 104 last-gen titles, including all four entries of the Gears of War series, Just Cause IIAssassin’s Creed II, and Super Meat Boy. According to Xbox Wire, players have already spent more than nine million hours playing Xbox 360 games on Xbox One consoles.

Though the games run through Xbox 360 emulation, users can still take advantage of Xbox One console features, such as recording gameplay and taking in-game screenshots. Microsoft also Xbox Box Live Gold subscribers to download Microsoft’s Xbox 360 “Games With Gold” selections on Xbox One, if they are backwards compatible. One such title,Sacred III, is currently available for Xbox 360 and Xbox One players to download through December 31.

Though there’s no 16-game list that would satisfy all Xbox players, the updated selection adds some notable, replayable games to the Xbox One catalog:
  • Braid
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution
  • Doritos Crash Course
  • Fable III
  • Halo: Reach
  • Hydro Thunder
  • Iron Brigade
  • Kane & Lynch 2
  • Motocross Madness
  • Ms. Pac-Man
  • Peggle
  • Portal: Still Alive
  • Spelunky
  • Splosion Man
  • Ticket to Ride
  • Zuma’s Revenge!
Microsoft said it intends to add more games to the Xbox One backward compatibility list “on a regular basis.” Though 15-20 new titles per month seems like a pretty steady clip, there is no telling whether or not this month’s update will be the norm, or a larger-than-average opening salvo.
