HTC will hold a virtual reality phone launch on October 20

HTC One 9 and HTC Aero rumor roundup:-

Rumors of an HTC superphone are nothing new, but the vast quantity of leaks point to a device possibly named the Aero or One A9. It’s expected to come later this year packed with the highest specifications.

HTC announces Oct. 20 event

HTC announced on Sept. 29 that it will hold a virtual reality event on Oct. 20. The company hinted that it will launch a new One series smartphone at noon EST. We’ll be paying close attention to the event, so we’ll bring you all the details. HTC could announce the One A9 or the Aero/Hero phone that’s being teased. Regardless the spec sheet, the new phone will be running Android 6.0 Marshmallow, HTC says.

It’s Sprint and GCF certified:-

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) added three certifications for unnamed HTC smartphones on the weekend, one for the One A9u (2PQ9100), expected to be the international version, and two specific to the United States. The international version supports a large amount of non-U.S. LTE bands, but may be sold by unlocked resellers in the United States.

The first (2PQ9120) of the two certified devices supports LTE bands 2, 4, 5, 7, and 12, all commonly used by American carriers. The second (2PQ9300) supports LTE bands 25, 26, used by sprint.

The Global Certification Forum (GCF) went a step further and revealed the name of the device. The HTC One A9 device is in its list, certified on Oct. 2. We still don’t know the specifications for the One A9, with some rumors claiming it will be a new flagship and others pointing to a midrange smartphone.

It might look like the iPhone 6

We have press render images of the Aero revealing all the color options that will be available. The phone itself looks strikingly familiar to the iPhone 6 / iPhone 6S. The color options will be Acid Gold, Opal Silver, Deep Garnet, Carbon Gray, Rose Gold, and Cast Iron. Related: HTC’s new Desire phones are here to win the hearts of those on a tight budget
In addition to the press render, an actual hands on image was leaked on Weibo.

The image itself shows a closer look at what appears to be a fingerprint sensor at the bottom. You will also notice that some of the specs are revealed on the display.

Specs are up for debate

Some say it’ll be a mid-range phone, but others say it’ll be a high-end flagship. These are all the spec rumors, and many of them contradict one another.
If the leaked images are real, we’re looking at 5-inch display with a resolution of 1080p (1,920 x 1,080). It’s powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 processor, 2GB of RAM, and has 16GB of internal storage. Incidentally, the Snapdragon 617 processor would support Qualcomm’s new Quick Charge 3.0 feature.

There is also the presence of Sony on the display, which probably has something to do with the main camera. HTC has yet to wow anyone in the camera department, so let’s hope it is indeed a Sony sensor.
The Aero made an appearance on Geekbench in early September. The benchmarking tool revealed the MediaTek Helio X20 deca-core processor and 4GB of RAM, which have only been seen once before on the Acer Predator 6 gaming phone.
The Helio X20 runs on an octa-core processor split into two quad-core segments: one running at 1.4GHz and the other at 2.0GHz. A dual-core processor runs alongside the octa-core, running at 2.5GHz for more intensive tasks.
This is the largest processor in the industry right now, surpassing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 and Nvidia’s Tegra K1. Add 4GB of RAM onto that, and you have one of the most powerful smartphones on the market.
The benchmarks didn’t give any other information. Past leaks showed a 2,560 x 1,440 pixel resolution display, but that was for the HTC Aero/Hero, not the HTC One A9. That said, the Aero could have easily been a codename for the One A9.
Battery life is going to be the big question with the Aero. With such a large amount of energy needed to power a 2K display and deca-core processor, HTC needs to outfit the smartphone with a killer battery.
Software-wise, the Aero could run Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box. This is according to @LlabTooFeR, who has a very good track record when it comes to HTC devices. He is also reporting that the newest version of HTC’s custom user interface, Sense 7, will also be pre-installed on the device. HTC confirmed that rumor with its invite to the October 20 event.

The whole benchmark could have been a fake, as we’ve seen time and time again from these sites, but HTC has an event planned for October 20. A smartwatch could be announced at the event, alongside another smartphone.
Considering the failure of the One M9, HTC might want to get another flagship out quickly to bring in new customers. It even launched the One M9+ with a 2K display earlier this year to try and entice high-end customers.
