If you have pre-ordered Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on PlayStation 4, you’re just a week away from
trying out the game’s multiplayer beta. Publisher Activision has detailed what to expect, and it sounds like there will be enough content to keep you playing well into the weekend.
Beginning on Friday, October 14 at 1 p.m. ET, the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare beta will include access to three of the game’s multiplayer maps: Frontier, Frost, and Throwback. Frontier is designed for a faster-paced multiplayer match, taking place in “a small section of a giant space station that is in order around the planet Neptune.” Front, which is a “medium-paced” map, is set on Jupiter’s Europa moon and focuses on verticality. Throwback is also a medium-paced level, and as its name suggests, is evocative of 1950s America.

Three game modes that have long been staples of the Call of Duty series — Team Deathmatch, Domination, and Kill Confirmed — will be available in rotation during the beta, as will the new Defender game mode. Activision also promises “surprises,” but doesn’t specify how many other modes are going to be available during the beta.
The beta will include access to three of Infinite Warfare‘s six “combat rigs” — Warfighter, Merc, and Synaptic — giving you the chance to try out different play-styles with unique abilities. Each comes with one “payload” and one “trait,” offering speed boosts, persistent score streaks, and even a shock-wave attack.
The new “mission teams” system will also see limited use during the beta, with players earning experience for their commander based on their approach to combat. The JTF Wolverines, favoring aggressive combat, and the Orion Initiative, favoring strategy, will both be available to join.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will host a second beta the weekend of October 21 for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The full game, along with Modern Warfare Remastered, will be available for both consoles and PC on November 4.
